Monitored Dosage System (MDS) Blister Pack Service

At Sirchem, we understand that managing multiple medications can be overwhelming. Remembering what to take and when, or dealing with difficult packaging, can add unnecessary stress. That’s why we’re here to make your medication routine as simple and hassle-free as possible. Our Monitored Dosage System (MDS) is designed to help patients stay organised and take their medications correctly.

What is a Monitored Dosage System?

A Monitored Dosage System (MDS) is a convenient way to organise your medications. Instead of organising multiple boxes and blister packs, we provide a specially designed tray with clearly marked compartments for each day and time. This ensures you know exactly what to take and when, reducing the risk of missed doses or errors.

Our trays are easy to use, featuring clear labels and simple-to-open compartments, ideal for those who struggle with traditional packaging. By organising your medication for you, we take the guesswork out of your daily routine and provide peace of mind.

We recognise how valuable this service is to many of our patients, and we’ve worked hard to keep it free for as long as possible. However, due to changes in NHS funding, we can no longer offer this service without a fee. Despite this, we remain committed to delivering high- quality care. We’ve invested in staff training and streamlined processes to maintain a service that is both efficient and safe. These enhancements improve accuracy and patient safety, ensuring you can manage your medication with confidence.

Who Can Benefit from a Monitored Dosage System?

This service is ideal for individuals who find managing their medication challenging, including:

  • Patients on multiple medications – Simplifies complex medication schedules.
  • Individuals with memory difficulties – Helps ensure doses are taken correctly.
  • People with limited hand mobility – Easy-to-open compartments assist those with arthritis, Parkinson’s, or M.S.
  • Patients with complex schedules – Organises medications for different days and times.
  • Partially sighted individuals – Clearly labelled trays make medication management easier.

How Does the Service Work?

Once we receive your prescription, our pharmacy team carefully fills your MDS tray according to your prescribed schedule. Everything is clearly labelled so you always know what to take and when.

We offer flexible options, providing trays on a weekly or monthly basis depending on your needs and prescriber recommendations. Additionally, we support local residential and nursing homes, ensuring safe and efficient medication management for their residents. Our
team is also available to offer guidance on safe medication storage and disposal.
